How to enjoy games Part 2

Since I wrote an article on how to enjoy games, I’ve done some thinking.

Taking games to seriously can have a serious impact on your ability to enjoy a game. This is an opinion that can be backed up due to the succes of the nintendo DS and the nintendo Wii. Name one game on either of these platforms that must be taken serious to be able to play proper, then I’ll show you a game that isn’t fun. Now before you accuse me of being a Nintendo fanboy read on.

Fact is you don’t need a Wii or DS to have a non-serious game. You do however need a wii/DS to back up such an obvious opinion.
You can indeed have non-serious games on Playstation,Xbox even PC. Actually you don’t even need to have an electronic game in order to have fun. Cluedo is a great example.

How do you play a game at ease(not serious) ?
First, try and avoid gaming competitions. Once you are in a clan and forced to practise a game 8 hours a day, it defeats the object. It is true that some gamers do have fun while playing at competition, it is also true that most of them don’t take the game to serious. So try and avoid any competitive play.This includes, competition or simply aiming to be the top of each Quake3 Arena match. just remember, if you do get fragged you will eventually respawn. There is nothing to worry about.

Avoid looking for the small bugs in the game. Focusing on the bugs and complaigning about them will bring you nothing but unfun gaming. If you do find a bug, see what you can make of it. Play around with it, start a differant source of fun in the game. Huge multiplayer maps are usually crawling with these kind of bugs. I recall me and my friend playing lan games and getting bored so quick that we notice these bugs and have fun with them.

Dont make it your goal to get to the end of the level as quick as possible. If you are in a hurry your taking the game to serious. Besides taking a look around at the artists work in the game may tend to be more revealing than what one would think. When I played crysis I rushed it half way through the game and only then realising how beautifull the island actually looks like.

So try to play games with a less serious attitude. It will help.
