Hey readers

You might have noticed the decline of posts from me. This I feel guilty about and I’ve got more sad news that I will be posting a lot less this year due to the lack of an internet connection. So this will kind of be the end of the blog or just temporary.

So during the past few weeks theres been some stuff happening in the gaming world.

The closure of the studio that made need for speed games is one to mention. EA closed down the black box studio along with a few other studios due to the economy. A number of other studios are also closing or letting some workers go.

This year in gaming is going to be great. It could even be better then 2008. 2008 had a great line up but most of the games ended up in some sort of dissapointment. Although 2009 does have a  potential line up again with the economy most studios have shrinked and requires greater effort to rush the games thus leaving us with more dissapointment.  Some games that I’m looking forward to includes :

Prototype looks like it could be a great game.

Bioshock2 will be great but I hope it only comes 2010(so that they have more time perfecting it).
Supreme commander 2, I’m really keen to see what Gas power and Square Enix(cant get better then SqEn) did on this.
Also when Chrono Trigger finally arrives in SA that will be nice.
F.E.A.R. 2 : Project origins.
The sims 3
Final Fantasy XIII (Xbox360) and Tekken 6.
Colin McRae DiRT 2.

Uhm… the new Harry Potter game based on the upcoming movie( I know they always get bad reviews but I always enjoy playing them).
Also interested in infinity wards new Call of Duty(if there is going to be one).
Half Life2 episode3
New Portal

(the list excludes the obvious diablo3 and starcraft games)

There are also bound to be a number of announcements still to come and a few that I forgot to mention. So 2009 is looking good.

Anime wise there are also some news regarding the US Death Note movie featuring the guy from high school musical(zac i think). I read on facebook that there are even rumours of it being a musical.

The Cowboy Bebop movie also made headlines when they said Keanu Reeves is going to be spike(not a big suprise if you’ve read the blog post).

Full Metal Alchemist is getting a make over which is something that a lot of us are looking forward to.

Also remember all those games I claimed that I was going to review? I received a bigger batch and cant seem to finish the games. All I’ve been focusing on is Call of Duty. One other gem that I’ve been playing on the DS is DragonBall Origins. It is a really cool game that I do recommend for fans.

So readers keep your heads high and enjoy 2009. Hopefully I’ll  get some kind of chance to post here again.

Enjoy!

Remember that little article I posted about rumours regarding the PSP2 ? Well a few days ago Kotaku reported that David Reeves claims there will be no PSP2. He added that the only way there could be one is if  Sony Japan is keeping it a secret from him. So  this piece of news dampened some spirits and dismissed the rumours. Or so we thought.

Eurogamer recently reported that there are already games in development for the PSP2 and what is more the PSP4000 is also in development. So if this is true the PSP2 should be released somewhere in the next 2 years.  Although with all the differant rumours and reports roaming the net it is impossible to take any of this serious , or at least not untill solid confirmation.

So when would you think would be the best time to announce something so highly anticipated? E3 perhaps?

There are rumours floating around on the net regarding the PSP2 in development. This follows after ImaginationTechnologies claimed to have signed a contract with Sony to use their new range of GPU’s

Imagination is known for their GPU in the iPhone so working with Sony on the PSP2 can seem natural.

The SGX55x core is suspected to be in the PSP 2 and  obviously should be a major increase from the current PSP. Nothing else is known and all we can wait for is confirmation about the PSP2 from sony before we gobble up this news.

In the meantime , check out these concept designs that I found on Kotaku

Ever since Colin McRae’s tragic death in 2007, the quetion on his fans lips was “Is this going to be the end of his games aswell?”. If you are a fan of the superb rally games from the Colin McRae name you’ll be delighted to know DiRT2 is in the works.

The McRae family decided to give the game the go-ahead since it will be a great tribute to him. Since the original modified EGO engine was used in the racing game Grid. It is said that the EGO engine is going to be even more upgraded to accomodate multi-cored processing and increased physics capabilities. The game will also include a more personal carreer mode which judging by your relationships with other drivers at  events will get you invited to better events and such.

Also a good thing to note. The flashback feature in the Grid game will also make its way into DiRT2. The flashback feature is a nifty addition which allows you to rewind the race a few seconds back to allow one to redo a certain section that will allow you to avoid nasty crashes.

Then for all the online fanatics, the online modes will include a ranking system and will be able to host various amounts of differant race types.

The game is set to be released in 2009. Also this is all according to an interview done http://videogames.yahoo.com/news-1267329 and if the interview is anything to go by there will be a lot more good announcements regarding the game in the near future.

Like the previous Call of Duty games , Call of Duty World at War takes you to war. This time it is set in two locations during World War II. The first being in the Pacific where the Americans and the Japanese take each other on. The second is in Germany where you play as a Russian trying to win over Berlin.

In the game you hop between 2 characters, an American and a Russian. Not much is known about either but that is the point of the game. The game focuses less on the individual and more on the strong desire to eliminate the enemy and gain a war victory.

The game took me two days to complete. Others claim it took them 3 hours and others it took much longer. The pace of the game will depend on the player. So if the player wants a nice longish experience then the player should progress as slow as possible. If the player wants to rush the game he should just run from cover to cover as quick as possible. The story itself can be seen as long enough but the game time is arguably short.

The controls are similar to CoD4 so it could possibly require a little tweaking but they are fine. The entire game is basically the same as CoD4 except the location and time era. So this is a great welcome for fans of Call of duty itself.

The game also includes a co-op mode that will allow you to play along with your friend online or at a LAN . This is a very nice addition and offers a new experience to everyone.

There are a few new type of levels for example one where you need to shoot enemies out of a plane and also rescue drowning soldiers. There is also a bonus level called ”Nazi zombies” where the player wakes up in a abandoned house and is forced to survive waves of zombie attacks.

One thing that might put one off the game is the amount of unnecessary gore. For some reason the developers decided to add the ability to blow off enemies legs arms and heads. It was never included in previous Call of Duty games and personally seems like an unnecessary addition to the game.

Also the in between mission cut-scenes are awesome. They suite the game so well.

The game uses the same graphical engine as Call of Duty 4 but for some reason it is a more demanding game. So before purchasing make sure you check out the recommended requirements online.

Then there is the sound. The music is great. It was one thing that I noticed and couln’t help but to fall inlove with it. It went away with the old school marching band symphonies and instead it mixed a little of everything together and it complements the game well.

One thing at first that annoyed me was the attempt to connect to an online account every time one starts the game. Then there was also a number of multiplayer issues but most of the issues seems to have disappeared.

This game was truly one of the best games that I’ve played. In one mission you fight in the streets of Berlin. I just stopped and looked around at all the tall buildings, cloudy skies and bullet filled air. It made me feel like I was really there. It was truly more of an experience than a form of electronic entertainment.

I would greatly recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed any call of duty before and to any new comers to the series. The only reason why I wouldn’t give the game 100/100 would be because there might be some individuals that won’t like it. That makes it imperfect.

Oh and please do go check out the whole album, these photos are only a few.

Crysis warhead is basically the same as the first Crysis game but from a different point of view. So the story is basically ,the Koreans are busy with suspicious activity on a tropical island and it is up to the special forces to figure out what and to stop them. Things go horribly wrong and alienlike life is found.

The story follows a guy named Psycho who is one tough looking guy bearing a few battle scars. He basically just follows the orders and sometime he doesn’t, he instead chooses to do the morally correct things.

Compared to the first crysis , warhead is crazily shorter . It provides more or less 3.5 hours of gaming (if my calculations are correct).

The nano suite sees a return as the one of the “unique” gameplay features. Although since it was in the first crysis , it isn’t that unique anymore. Then there is also the graphics.

With my new 260GTX and the game on ultra settings the game looks incredibly lifelike. Note that isn’t always classified as good looking. But at some point it is really good looking. This is one of the problems I have with advancing graphics. Why make it look like real life ,if it is real life that I’m trying to escape?

The sad thing about the game is firstly(as mentioned before) the game length then there is the repetition. I’ve already played Crysis, why would I want to play it again!? Also the one thing that is for most gamers the biggest annoyance ever in gaming history … DRM.

Yeah the game does include DRM.

Well I wouldn’t suggest anyone to buy the game if they had already played crysis and found it mediocre. If you did enjoy Crysis then you’ll love the game including its more focused multi-player game called Crysis-Wars.

Was it not for the DRM I might have suggested it to more people, but for now you’ll just be wasting your money.

It is finally my turn for a long weekend. After wroking a month each day  from 7 to 5 excluding sundays, I finally get my little long weekend. I received 2 party invites and one invite to go to Africas biggest car expo (AutoAfrica) . It couldn’t be worse timing.

This is because I got 3 brand new games Far cry 2(which I’ve been playing for a week) , Fable 2 and the lastest in my collection(received few hours ago) is Red Alert 3!!! So with so many games and so many other stuff happening this weekend , I simply do not know what I should do.

Well , perhaps I’ll go check out the party tonight, the only problem is it is a dress up party and I don’t have any costumes.

WHHHHATTT!? I’m starting to talk about my personal life on my blog :S

So back on the games, here is a quick first impression on the games.

Far cry 2. The game is certainly differant then what I expected, there are a hand full on small things that I find wrong with the game but it doesn;t matter because I just cant seem to stop playing.

Fable 2 . I’ve only been playing the game for an hour or two  so I honestly cant comment to much on it except maybe for the fact that it reminds me blissfully about Fable(1) which was one of my favourite games of all time.

Red Alert 3. I’ve just installed and now downloading the patch. The intro movie was not really erm that good, very low budget.

Anyway , enjoy your weekends people!

Also I’d like to hear from my readers on creative ways to make money (please try and keep it anime or game related).

Star Wars The force unleashed is about a secret apprentice that Darth Vader had between the events of the 3rd and 4th star wars films. Darth Vader raised him as a child with the aid of a morphing droid.

There isn’t much room for story but it does answer a few unanswered questions. The main character does undergo personal change and is placed in between two factions both tugging him to their sides.

The game is relatively short but it is best enjoyed over a long time stretches.

The game play is either something you’d like or hate. During normal running around the controls are just right with the only real problem is locking on to an enemy that you actually want to lock on to. Then when fighting larger enemies and boss battles it ends with a dreadful press-the-correct-button-that-appears-on-the-screen-within-0.000002 seconds. This was one of the biggest setbacks I had with the game but still allowed for a great looking finish to ones opponent.

What unique features does the game have?

One thing in the game that stands out is the fact that you feel so powerful while playing. Smashing doors by a wind like kameha-meha your hand. Sending storm troopers flying to the other end of the level also adds to ones ego. In the game just like most RPGs one accumulates experience in the concept of force points. This allows the player to upgrade its unique force powers and combos.

The game looks pretty good. The physics engine is said to be one of the best. Even though it has got shiny graphics, the game still fails to feel like star wars. The sound is pretty standard nothing to complain about and nothing to brag about

One minor thing that some may find annoying is the loading screens. They are not only when changing levels but also when you want to purchase force power upgrades.

The game was actually fun to play. It was the closest experience I had to feel like a sith/jedi and it was just nice to turn on the xbox, load the game , sit back and destroy everything in my path level by level.

It is difficult to say whether I’d recommend the game. I’d actually think that non star wars fans would enjoy the game more even though star wars fans should try and play the game.

Here in south africa gamers has very few things to get excited about. Two of these things includes a gaming magazine filled with enough ego to be labelled its own religioun and then of course the annual gaming expo (which is ran by the gaming magazine called NAG). Along with the expo they also hold a large lan. Purchase a lan ticket and you get access to the expo and the lan.

So each year this is one of my highlights , since about 2006 it’s all started to go downhill in my own opinion. Yet it’s been growing in terms of people attending.

In 2006 they held the south african launch of the Xbox 360. As one would expect they should have let the actuall gamers attend the event. Instead they invited a handfull of has been celebrities. This I ignored untill 2007. I did not attend the LAN just the expo. Except the expo was so dull that me and my friend didn’t stay long. There was some games available to play, old games, when I say old games I mean NFS underground2.

This year was just dreadfull. Half of the usuall exhibitors could not afford to exhibit anything, this includes most of south african anime industry. Animeworx and Otaku was not at the event due to the high cost. If this was not enough , most of the stands was more focused on electronics and useless safety gadgets. There was even a university or two trying to get people to enrol. I also spotted a First National Bank at the expo.

Why on earth would they allow non gaming companies to exhibit at a gaming expo except for financial reasons? One of the biggest booths of course was the NAG magazine booth. Filled with a bunch of guys playing on consoles with egos as in “I’m a better gamer than you will ever be”. Don’t believe me? Go check out their forums and view the staffs profiles, especially their statuses. They often resort to religion bashing to put members in their places.

Anyway, I don’t usually rant but I just needed to get it off my chest.

Oh and if you’re wondering why I’m so quiet lately, it is because I dont have internet at work and when I get free time at home I use it to play games or to just relax.

xbox360fanboy.com released a rumour stating that a source told them that Halo 4 is currently in development by Gearbox. the previous Halo titles were developed by Bungie Studios so it is a rather risky rumour.

But with that said Gearbox at the begining of the year claimed that they are working on a project bigger then what they’ve ever worked on before. So Halo4 is a possibility.

Also if that isn;t enough according to OXM Halo4 will be released with a new Xbox console!!!!

Let’s first see if anyone confirms anythign before getting excited(even though most of you already are). :D
